Deir Ezzor – Sound and Picture
“Fighting against terrorism” has become an easy pretext to whoever wants to intervene in the Syrian situation, and most recently Russia, which started a new chapter on 30 September 2015, after it began air strikes on different parts of Syria.
Deir Ezzor east of Syria, being controlled by IS, it had the biggest share of the Russian bombing, which doesn’t differentiate between civilians and IS fighters, causing the deaths of dozens of innocent people and a great destruction of infrastructure and economic losses estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars, as if the war exempts all the godfathers of terrorism; the Syrian, Iranian regimes, Hezbollah and the Iraqi and Afghan militias and even IS, to kill civilians among them all.
“We bombed IS in Deir Ezzor“
Since the first day of the Russian air strikes, the Russian media channels rushed to say that the bombing targeted the headquarters and the whereabouts of IS, but the truth is the opposite of what has been said, as most air strikes have targeted civilian areas.
“Sound and Picture” reporter in Deir Ezzor reported that, the Russian warplanes, since started the strikes till now, have conducted hundreds of air raids on the city countryside and neighborhoods out of regime’s control and 90% of the total air strikes have targeted civilians.
He added that the majority of the strikes targeted the countryside and were distributed to more than 20 separate point. The bombing targeted a densely populated cities, which caused a “horrific massacres” claimed the lives of entire families.
The death of more than 200 civilians
The Russian airstrikes have caused the deaths of many civilians so far.
The deaths of more than 200 civilians as a result of Russian air strikes in each of Albu Kamal and Zubara, Soseh east of Deir Ezzor and Kaber, Zaghir Jazeera in the western countryside, have all been documented.
Mohammed Khoder, from “Sound and Picture” team, said: “the Russian air strikes caused the deaths of entire families such as Al-Debs family in Albu Kamal, Ammash Al-Dahash family, Marqal and Ibrahim Alzebrawi families in Zebara town, and many others. The largest percentage of the deaths were among children, women and elderly”.
The Russian air strikes also caused a large economic losses worth hundreds of millions of dollars in Deir Ezzor alone. the major losses were the oil fields, public utilities and residential buildings.
Ismail, an economics professor from Deir Ezzor saw that the Russian air strikes aimed at destruction, that’s why we notice a huge economic losses, especially in oil facilities which were exposed to “deliberate and systematic” destruction.
He added that the aviation targeted fields and important places that have nothing to do with IS’s income from the production process.
According to economists, the big losses that occurred in the province will be an additional reason for people’s suffering in that area, to make it worse than it already was.
IS the least to lose
Although Russian forces, by bombing the Syrian territories, has claimed to fight terrorism, especially IS, IS was the least to lose in this war while the civilians were the most harmed in terms of souls and material losses.
Mohammed Abu Yaman, from Deir Ezzor, said that IS’s losses were limited, as in Deir Ezzor only 10 IS fighters were killed and few of its mechanisms were destroyed since the beginning of the Russian air strikes.
He also pointed out that the bombing of oil facilities, as a move to stop IS’s funding sources, had a bad impact on civilians rather than IS. The Russian strikes have destroyed dozens of the civilians oil sources and contributed in fuel rising prices and the displacement of dozens of families to the less dangerous places.
