IS went too far with conducting executions, killings and unfair sentences in its controlled areas, severely oppressing those who do not belong to its ranks and killing a large number of innocent people under various charges.
IS has dominated over large areas in Deir Ezzor, Raqqa and Aleppo by force, as it fought fierce battles against the Syrian armed opposition factions that were located in those areas. After expelling those factions, IS worked on extending its clout and influence through violence which was excessive in most of the cases especially against civilians, as it has executed hundreds and arrested others in order to establish “Caliphate state” IS desire.
On the other hand, IS laws have worsen people’s life in the areas of its control, from the confiscating properties, houses and shops, to the impositiing taxes and preventing travel outside of its influence limits. All of these laws have made life under IS rule a living hell, especially with the imposition of punishments against violators of those laws.
Syrians stuck to their revolution against Al-Assad regime despite the brutality used by it to suppress the rebels through the use of various types of heavy weapons and internationally illicit arms in order to eliminate resistance in several areas. This scene is being repeated today in IS-controlled areas. Despite the violence that IS practices against civilians, they resorted to several methods and actions to defy IS presence in their areas, this presence that people call “another occupation”.
Ahmed Abu Aljoud, from Deir Ezzor, said to “Sound and Picture”: ” people have begun to break the fear barrier built by IS practices. All they wish for now is the salvation of IS domination and its departure. IS image is no longer as it was in the past, as people are criticizing IS every day. “
In spite of IS members’ heavy presence in the region, families have resorted to various methods to defy this presence in their areas. In Menbej city of Aleppo countryside, which was controlled by IS since January 2014, the residents came out on several occasions in peaceful demonstrations to reject IS’s presence and ask it to leave. However, IS responded with fire to disperse the demonstrators and conducted arrests in the city.
Moving to Deir Ezzor, one of IS strongholds east of Syria on the Iraqi border, IS found itself in another trouble; as unknown people set the revolution flag over a school in the countryside, and others smashed the Clock Tower square in the city of Albu Kamal, the square in which IS performs executions. IS also found some graffiti on walls in some neighborhoods that says “Down with IS. ”The old face of the peaceful revolution against Bashar al-Assad’s regime is coming back this time to resist IS.
IS has failed, despite the violent methods in controlling civilians, who have been rejecting it since the start of its rule. Now people are expressing the extent of dissatisfaction with IS presence in their areas, and this was clear in people’s demonstrations in Menbej during the last month, as when they used revolution slogans directed against IS injustice, such as “Menbej is free and Down of IS”. People also chanted to show support to FSA in a flagrant defiance to IS, who dealt with those protests with arresting, imposing a curfew and raiding on Internet cafes, as confirmed by a civilian from within the city to site “sound and a picture “.
Pressures imposed by IS on civilians in areas of his rule was a fundamental reason for the emergence of forms of resistance against it, sometimes peaceful, other times are a form of military resistance especially against the security members and princes. The military situation which IS imposed by force has not lived up to the Syrians and this is confirmed by the recent incidents that have confused IS clearly, especially with the growing number of displaced people outside its regions to escape the chaos and the unfair practices.
