Deir Ezzor – Sound and Picture
IS kept on imposing Sharia courses “repentance sessions” since its announcement of its control over large areas of eastern Syria until now.
After imposing Sharia courses on all of who fought against it, teachers, lawyers and officers. IS, again issued a decision a few days ago imposing Sharia courses on all the former members of Baath Party and all of the former revolutionary fighters and activists in its controlled areas, even civilians who don’t belong to any of the mentioned parties.
“Sound and Picture” reporter in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor, said: “After the imposition of Sharia courses on lawyers and members of Baath party who defected from the regime and on all who worked within revolutionary institutions, the numbers of registered in the first week reached nearly 1,700 people in the western areas alone. IS used schools in Ma’adan city in the eastern countryside of Raqqa. However, IS later expelled them all because of the large number and not being able to afford the costs, such as food and drinks and out of fear of being targeted by the coalition and the Russian aircrafts , according to what IS members said. “
Our reporter said: “IS has informed all of the registered that the courses will be back after one month from now and that they will have to pay for food and other expenses during the course, which raised the ire of people. Then IS decided later to set up these courses within the mosques of each village of the western countryside, so that people can join the courses in the nearest mosque to them. “
Large numbers of people took the initiative to join Sharia courses for the fear of sanctions and the oppression of IS, although many of them have already undergone similar courses.
The activist Abu Omar said: “IS follows a special policy in these courses, it considers all mentioned groups of people to be apostates who will not be able to return to Islam unless joining these courses. Some people escaped away from IS-controlled areas or disappeared refusing to join such courses which became a nightmare to them. “
It is worth mentioning that the courses vary in length from one place to another, and they also vary by type, but they all meet in one thing that they include all the people in the areas controlled by IS. Although the majority of people rejected these courses, but the fear stands between people and rejection.
