Deir Ezzor – Sound and Picture
Despite the battles and losses that IS has been suffering from in Syria and Iraq for more than a year. IS still represents itself to the world that it is still in control of the situation and is not affected. Nevertheless, IS lately opened recruitment offices in all of its controlled areas in an attempt to fill the shortfall in its ranks.
Moreover, IS depended on temptations and gifts to Ensure an absolute loyalty and stability in the battlefields, especially that IS has been suffering from the escape of its fighters from battle fields for more than two months and this cases are not a secret anymore.
Qusay Fourati, “Sound and Picture” activist in Dier Ezzor, said: “All of people in Dier Ezzor know that most of Dier Ezzor IS members “Ansar” are not experienced as fighters and that They did not get enrolled into IS ranks for fighting or dying on fronts, rather than for getting salaries and power that allow them to take revenge on free army factions and Al-Nusra Front along with all revolutionary symbols in the eastern region. It is worth mentioning that the people who join IS are usually among the worst in terms of ethics and behaviors, most of them are wanted to free army courts on several charges such as robbery, murder, pick offs and deceptions”
These kind of people found that the allegiance of IS is the perfect solution for all their problems, whether financial or reprisal, but IS surprised them with many decisions including sending all of the “Ansar” to the battlefront after giving them Sharia courses and training in IS camps, except for those who had relationships with influential people in the commands of IS and managed to stay as guards at the headquarters or checkpoints of IS or.
“Sound and Picture” reporter in Deir Ezzor eastern countryside, said: “IS Deir Ezzor fighters felt scared and disappointed because of the decision to transfer them to the fronts in Iraq and North Syria which means to them an inevitable death.”
At the beginning of carrying out of this new decision, military mission duration was about 15 days at Iraq fronts and a salary raise for fighters that stay longer. However, after IS big losses recently, IS changed the military missions duration to a month and promised for salary raise and prizes.
Despite these temptations and salaries, cases of fighters escape from battlefields kept on happening almost every day because of the fighters fear of inevitable death in clashes and coalition forces strikes.
Lately, there have been many break-ins over dozens of houses in Deir Ezzor and its countryside by IS military police patrols to search for fleeing fighters because this is considered a “betrayal” that requires punishment according to IS.
The reporter also said: “Fighters who have exceeded the period of their service at fronts for more than two months, especially in Iraq fronts, who are mostly from Jerzi, Taianeh, Zer and Jdaidet villages of Dier Ezzor, waited them a great prize as promised earlier, such as salary raise and even “Yezidi captive” for each of them as a rewards for their loyalty and stability in the battlefields.
These rewards are used by IS to gain more vulnerable souls and recruit more fighters to meet the shortfall of fighters on the battlefield, whether in Iraq or northern Syria.
