Deir Ezzor – Sound and Picture
The regime forces are working on securing Deir Ezzor military airport boundary, due to the clashes that take place in the area of the airport and IS frequent attacks.
Sound and Picture Reporter in Al- Jura neighborhood, said: “Regime forces are transferring concrete pipes (pipes sewage) with truck into Deir Ezzor military airport, to use them as firewall surrounding airstrips specially to secure cargo planes landing. The reason is the repeated attacks on the airport which mostly target planes coming from Damascus transporting food and weapons to regime troops in Deir Ezzor which is besieged by IS since the middle of the first month this year”.
The reporter also said: “many of planes were returned back because of not being able to land. Last June, three cargo planes coming from Damascus carrying food to Deir Ezzor, were returned after IS attacks with mortar shells on the runways preventing planes to land.
“Ammar Ali”, a fake name taken by one of the airport engineers for security reasons when talking to Sound and Picture, said: “the airport control asked the staff not to land in the airport, fearing IS attacks. The regime gives these airplanes a special attention because they are considered the only lifeline for the regime areas in Deir Ezzor”.
The regime procedures didn’t only aim to secure the airport and cargo planes, but also to protect its soldiers and militia inside the airport, since the regime recently lost a number of its army and militia members especially during waiting in the airport either while getting on planes or while empting planes cargo.
