Only days after the commencement of the in Syria, which allowed safe passages and access to many liberate areas around the country for people fleeing from Either the besieged areas or, the ISIS held territories, the Sound and Picture campaign in collaboration with Justice for life organization launched the #EuphratesPain campaign.

#EuphratesPain will shed light on the challenges facing civilians leaving the ISIS held areas, hoping to access liberated areas in Northern Syria. It also demands the protection of the civilians who may not manage to leave the ISIS held areas.

Sparing the civilian from all types of shelling, done by either the Syrian regime, Russia , US-led coalition airstrikes targeting ISIS, or other groups is one of the campaign’s aims as well.

Deciding to leave was not as easy for the civilians, the last ceasefire meant according to them: more shelling on ISIS territories which means more blood and death, a daily life that the Syrians are trying to avoid by moving north.

Families moving from the Euphrates cities headed to the Suburbs of Aleppo, Idlib and Al-Hasakah where many of them were not granted access to these relatively safe areas because they are “coming from ISIS territories” and thus are “not to be trusted as civilians seeking shelter and safety”.

Syrians fleeing Raqqa and Deir Azzor did not only suffer when moving inside Syria, the struggle affected some Syrian families in Greece, where they were held captive by authorities and questioned before preventing them from continuing their way to Europe. And now, to break the stereotype, Syrians around the world find themselves obliged to stand up and say: “I am from Raqqa, but I am not ISIS, I am from Deir Azzor, but I am not ISIS!”.
